The Global Chemicals Category Lead will lead purchasing and supply management activities for multiple areas of spend within the Global Chemicals Category Team with the goal of achieving significant initial cost reductions, including year-over-year productivity improvements in the total cost of goods and services procured while maintaining or improving product quality and vendor service levels. This successful candidate will work closely with key stakeholders to develop effective cost reduction strategies and implementation plans. This role will attract and develop necessary talent to build a distinctive purchasing and supply chain management organization.
This position will be responsible for $1 Billion in annual spend. The position will report directly to the North America Lead and is located in St. Louis, MO.
The Global Chemicals Category Lead#39;s primary responsibility is to champion and secure total cost of ownership (TCO) reductions of strategic spend commodities for the Global Chemicals Team. In addition, this role will institutionalize strategic sourcing across Monsanto. As process leader responsible for strategic sourcing effectiveness, the Global Chemicals Lead has the following specific responsibilities:
? Set priorities and performance goals for the Chemical Category Managers, guide strategy development for chemicals, and oversee the development of annual strategic sourcing plans.
? Forecast and budget responsibilities for raw material and input costs.
? Partner with operations to develop and implement risk management strategy for chemicals, as well as, material requirement planning (MRP).
? Develop and manage relationships with global chemical suppliers
? Communicate team progress with the Regional Lead and business leadership and ensure clear alignment between team actions and business unit interests.
? Oversee the supplier selection and negotiation process for key sourcing teams; establish and maintain contractual and business relationships with the senior management of key suppliers; and be active in the effort to achieve small and disadvantaged business sourcing content objectives
? With the assistance of the Category Managers, track forecasted vs actual savings for the Global Chemicals Team and be responsible for communicating performance against these measures and their potential budgetary impact.
? Work with each Chemical Category Manager to ensure sourcing strategies are implemented and TCO reductions are secured according to forecasts.
? Develop, champion, and ensure implementation of ideas that will optimize Monsanto#39;s total cost of ownership for spend categories.
? Stay current with chemical market trends through relationships with suppliers and market experts, and ensure Monsanto has a process to gain access/familiarity with emerging supplier capabilities
? Develop performance objectives and conduct annual reviews with all associated Category Managers. The Lead will participate in career planning and development for each Sourcing Manager, and will assume a mentoring relationship with high-potential sourcing professionals.
? Partner with key stakeholders such as Engineering and Marketing to ensure purchasing is actively engaged in core business processes
? Maintain a working knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations as well as any internal policies (e.g. code of ethics) or procedures to ensure that the behavior exhibited by the organization with the highest level of integrity, honesty, and transparency.
BA/BS in Business/ or Engineering or related field required with MBA preferred
Successful, 5+ year track record in a global procurement organization
Previous experience managing chemical commodities
Strategic ability to develop high impact sourcing strategies. Exhibits thought leadership
Solid analytical skills. Able to define and understand the most critical issues
Strong negotiating skills and thorough understanding of sales/marketing practices are needed.
Ability to develop actionable recommendations and implementation plans
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
Strong management skills with emphasis on people development
