Monsanto is seeking a highly motivated scientist with the ability to excel as a leader of a multidisciplinary crop physiology team. The Crop Physiology leader will guide and direct research focused on investigation of plant processes driving growth, development, and grain yield enhancement by transgenic crop plants at the whole plant and plant community level. In addition, he/she will manage a staff of research scientists working in collaboration with project and farm teams. As a manager, the leader will be responsible for selecting, developing and evaluating personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the Crop Physiology function. The Crop Physiology lead will play a key role in the leadership team of the Yield and Stress physiology platform. Success will require effective collaboration with a broad array of scientists in basic and applied research fields. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with scientists across the spectrum of the Monsanto Technology organization. Leverage resources and skills of other teams to deliver outstanding experimental results.
Work with the trait project teams and physiology platform team to implement crop physiology strategies and experiments.
Select, develop and evaluate personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the Crop Physiology function
Support Monsanto#39;s intellectual property strategy by documenting research efforts and filing disclosures on key concepts and advancements.
Follow all ESH procedures and promote ESH protocol implementation across crop physiology team.
Ensure that all activities are conducted within compliance and stewardship guidelines, and maintain a heightened awareness of opportunities for reducing risk.
Required Skills / Experience:
Minimum PhD or a M.S. degree with 5 years experience in agronomy, crop physiology, whole plant biology, genetics, or related field.
Strong background in physiology, field experimentation and statistics.
Highly self-motivated, detail-oriented, and innovative.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Strong project management skills.
