Job description

The molecular breeding group develops and validates molecular breeding
processes to maximize crop breeding efficiency. As a part of this group, the Biometrics unit
focuses on statistical genetics, experimental design and data analysis aspects with teams
located in Ghent, Belgium, Morrisville, NC, and Singapore. This position contributes actively
to these tasks, and oversees the activities of the North American team.
The incumbent will:

• Contribute to the development, validation and implementation of molecular breeding
processes to meet efficiency and product delivery objectives;
• Interact with discovery breeders, molecular breeders and crop geneticists;
• Be responsible for concept development, experimental and population design, algorithm
and analysis script development, and implementation of this in software tools for breeders;
• Supervise activities of the North American Biometrics team to build strong functional
interactions with all stakeholders;
• Plan and monitor team activities versus project plans;
• Ensure technical quality and compliance with standards;
• Motivate, coach and hire staff and manage the team budget;
• Contribute to the molecular breeding strategy by creatively implementing new or existing
• Travel, as needed, domestically and internationally, 15%.

Your qualifications The selected candidate is required to possess the following:
• M. S. or Ph.D. degree in statistical genetics, statistics or quantitative genetics or related
• 5 years’ relevant work experience;
• Knowledge of molecular breeding methods;
• Expertise in the statistical analysis software R. Knowledge of other programming
languages is an asset as well as exposure to Bayesian statistics;
• Leadership and team management skills;
• Strategic thinking, creative and innovative mindset;
• Good reporting and communication skills in English (working language);
• Team player with strong interpersonal communication skills;
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment;
• Ability to travel, domestically and internationally, 15%.
