Job description:

The purpose of the Field Development Rep position is to plan, manage and
conduct both internal and external research trials to obtain data defining the biological activity
and nature of experimental compounds identified as candidates for new products. The
successful Field Development Rep will also:

  • Conduct trials to define and demonstrate the value of Bayer CropScience products in
  • comparison to competitors;
  • Characterize potential products through collaboration with the Product Development Team,
  • self-initiated field trials, as well as contracted research;
  • Represent Bayer CropScience locally at Universities and other research organizations;
  • Be recognized internally and externally as an expert in field testing, protocol development,
  • market needs, data analysis, and data interpretation;
  • Hire, train, and supervise interns;
  • Conduct activities within approved company policies, procedures, and budgets.


Your qualifications:

  • Experienced Plant Pathologist with previous industry experience in
  • managing a Field territory or with university experience in extension or research working on
  • agricultural problems;
  • Evidence of proficiency and innovation at the previous position must be apparent in addition
  • to experience;
  • MS degree with a minimum of 6 years in the evaluation of crop production technologies or;
  • PhD with a minimum of 4 years relevant experience;
  • Strong technical knowledge of major crops and pests within California is essential;
  • Working knowledge in practical entomology and weed science would be helpful;
  • Analytical and creative skills are needed to identify and take advantage of new business
  • opportunities within the territory;
  • Capable of operating experimental and commercial spray equipment and hold current
  • commercial pesticide applicators license, and have enough expertise to edit protocols
  • submitted by other team members;
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are essential;
  • Familiarity with the operation of farm equipment, chemical application (must have custom
  • applicators license), and driving trucks and trailers;
  • Genuine interest in agricultural research, as well as a willingness to learn.
