Role Purpose/Accountabilities:

-Manage the process of external variety trialing for peppers in the eastern US. Primarily conducting variety trials at the PLC 5 and PLC 6.1 levels as well as ICS trials and special projects.
-Manage the process of external variety trailing for the assigned species. The focus of the work is to determine the suitability of experimental pepper and tomato varieties for commercial introduction. Through the evaluation of adaptability to various environmental and production practices, the strengths and limitations of the varieties, and overall market acceptability are determined. In addition, special projects such as ICS trials will be assigned as needed.


Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
-Bachelor’s degree in agricultural related field
-Knowledge of basic experimental design for effective trial layout
-Market knowledge related to assigned crop
-Two or more years experience in the vegetable industry with the emphasis on field trial work

-Excellent organizational and time management skills required
-Ability to measure or rate differences consistently and accurately among plots for specified traits
-Ability to effectively analyze and summarize data
-Ability to effectively communicate results and recommendations
-Strong interest in hands-on experimental field trial work
-Desire to maintain a highly safe work environment

Additional Information:

-A minimum of two years in current position is required (requirement for internal applicants only)
-All applicants must be eligible to work in the US.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
-Ability to lift objects up to 40 lbs.

WORKING CONDITIONS WHILE PERFORMING ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
-Conditions are often dirty, dusty, and hot in combination with noisy equipment. Potential allergens-pollen, fungal spores, chemical pesticides in field or greenhouse. Exposure to high and low temperatures, sun, rain, and dust. Significant domestic travel throughout the key markets is required.
