 Trainee Program Overview:

This program is designed to educate participants on potato production, storage methods, variety development, and manufacturing processes within our Food Division and prepare you to take on a management role with Simplot. As a Management Trainee, you will learn about potato production, not by reading about it, but by participating in the actual processes on our Arena Valley Research Farm as well as in commercial fields. The Management Trainee will be involved in all processes involved to produce quality potatoes for the J.R. Simplot Food Group. This includes variety selection, trialing various agronomic principles, sampling techniques, planting, growing, harvesting, storage management, and data collection. You will receive periodic evaluations to monitor progress to ensure your understanding of the projects you participate in. The intent of this program is to give the Management Trainee the basic skill set of an employee in the Raw Departments. Trainees that excel in the program will be considered for future vacancies within the organization.

Simplot's potato plants are located in Caldwell (ID), Nampa (ID), and Aberdeen (ID), Moses Lake (WA), Othello (WA), Grand Forks (ND), and Portage La Prairie, Manitoba (Canada).

What's in it for you?

Alongside Simplot mentors, you will spend a minimum of 12 months learning through hands-on and classroom experiences. You will not be in an office all day, rather you will be out in the field partnering with and learning from the most knowledgeable people in potato production. You will be assigned specific job duties you will implement and complete. In addition you will also be involved with many different people and job titles; to give the Management Trainee a sense of various jobs in the Raw Product side of Potato Production. You will also get exposure to the manufacturing process of producing French Fries and other related products using Potatoes. These experiences will allow you to develop valuable job skills and leave the program with a strong sense of what your future can look like!

  • Bachelor's degree (in Agronomy, Crop Science, Soils, Plant Pathology or related field).
  • Experience in Crop Production preferably in Potatoes.
  • Other helpful qualifications (but not required) are a familiarity with the Spanish language, agriculture experience, or a work history in a related field.
