The primary responsibility of this role is driving stewardship within emerging designated crop areas and ensuring relevant crop-specific stewardship requirements are identified and implemented for the crop across the life cycle. Design and verify compliance with stewardship practices in order to achieve robust corporate governance while maintaining flexibility to successfully pursue a diverse global business strategy.
The incumbent will: Work closely with the crop specific area to ensure a current and in depth understanding of the global crop Breeding and Trait Development (B&TD) function and commercial activities are understood and ensure application of all relevant stewardship guidelines, processes and programs. Be an active member of the crop project team and crop team, representing Stewardship and maximizing opportunities to train and apply stewardship requirements. Work collaboratively with market areas and the expert functions to define and ensure adherence to stewardship standards and best practices required throughout the lifecycle, from research to product discontinuation, to support evolving business plans, address an unpredictable regulatory environment and mitigate risks. Ensure adoption and implementation of the Stewardship Program by individuals working with region specific Bayer seeds and traits for the crop. Promote and ensure company standards and best practices are followed as well as the worldwide BioScience commitment to the Excellence Through Stewardship program. Support the global process for the maintenance of plant genetic integrity and support global process for defining stewardship requirements when working with third parties. Support the development of training materials to explain crop stewardship requirements. Analyze all critical activities concerning plant genetic integrity across the crop life cycle. Determine all critical control points (CCP's) for the maintenance of plant genetic integrity and provide practical instruction, ensure implementation of all necessary activities, areas to be addressed and measures to be taken. Work closely with CCP teams and assist in their setup and maintenance. Maintain and drive the process for creating and maintaining the Plant Quality Assurance (PQA) platform and Seed Quality Standards. Conduct stewardship audits and review crop specific operations through site inspections, lead the management of crop specific potential incidents, the Root Cause Analysis (RCA), identify product nonconformities and advise on associated process improvements, incorporating these within the crop stewardship requirements. Travel globally, approximately 25%. The selected candidate is required to possess the following: An advanced degree in a scientific discipline (Master's or Ph.D. degree level) or advanced business degree, combined with at least 10 year's relevant experience in agricultural biotechnology and/or the seed business, and minimum 5 years of experience with agricultural crop commercialization; Scientific knowledge required: plant biotechnology techniques, quality assurance and quality control of plant biotech material, agronomy and plant breeding; Previous experience in quality management is a plus; Good analytical skills and experience working in organized teams or project management; Training / Auditing capabilities; Accuracy and consistency; Excellent communication and reporting skills; Demonstrated team oriented abilities; Advanced persuasive abilities and negotiation skills in order to influence and excellent networking skills; Leadership abilities to unite diverse groups to a common task and strategy; Professional business manner and high moral and ethical standards; Ability and willingness to travel globally, approximately 25%.
Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in Quality Management and auditing is a plus.
