Position Title: Next Generation Sequence Analyst

Role Purpose/Accountabilities:

- Collaborate with trait scientists, data analysts, the IS team and project managers to develop, implement and execute robust analysis of Next Generation Sequence data
- Combine biological and computational science capabilities to generate novel biological insights
- Coordinate and allocate internal and external personnel to ensure the efficient delivery of project objectives
- Provide expert selection and application of data management and analysis tools
- Identify, share and actively pursue opportunities where analytical methods and infrastructure modification can improve lead generation, mode of action research, biomarker discovery and germplasm development
- Participate in NGS Platform governance to ensure platform effectiveness and continuous improvement
- Enable and develop NGS analyst team and project partners through individual and group training

- Providing expert analysis of next-gen sequence data to Syngenta scientists globally
- Coordinating NGS analyst team members to deliver efficient and effective project execution
- Collaborating with project teams to determine suitable analytical and data mining tools and databases to achieve project objectives
- Monitoring and sharing the latest developments in the field
- Aligining, developing and maintaining professional capabilities to support scientific & business objectives
- Contributing to NGS data analysis infrastructure development and operation
- Supporting information exchange through effective project reporting, presentations and technical reviews

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

Critical knowledge:
- Degree in biological sciences required
- M.Sc. or equivalent in a computer science or a mathematical discipline desirable
- Demonstrated expertise in short read sequence analysis required
- Familiarity with the Linux &/or Unix computing environments required
- Proficiency in Perl or other programming or scripting language required
- Working understanding of information systems and the ability to communicate effectively with IS professionals
- Knowledge of internal, commercial, and publicly available bioinformatics tools and data sets.

Critical experience:
- Experience with instructing scientists on the use of computational biology tools
- Previous work experience in a biological laboratory desirable
- Proven track record of applying sequence analysis methods to derive relevant knowledge
- Experience in handling of diverse bioinformatics needs of scientists
- Awareness of computational biology scientific community

- The ability to relate biological processes to mathematical models that can be solved computationally.
- Demonstrated communication and organization skills.

- Develop, document and distribute best practices for NGS analysis
- Collaborate effectively with protect teams, the scientific computing community, IS and researchers across the Syngenta matrix
- Educate scientists and bioinformaticians on the appropriate applications of current and potential computational methodologies
- Make and defend proposals to teams across R&D, Bioinformatics and IS
- Adapt to new and changing ways of doing work
- Identify opportunities and taking action to build strategic relationship to achieve business goals
