Senior Environmental, Safety, and Health Engineer  -  The Senior Environmental, Safety and Health Engineer works within a team environment to develop/implement/manage ESH programs that address personnel safety and property protection in compliance with EPA, OSHA and corporate requirements.  The position is regionally based and supports sites across Monsanto&##39;s North America Seed and Traits organization.    This position will be responsible for approximately 12 sites in different locations.
Primary Duties:
·         Responsible for site ESH program management  including the development, implementation and evaluation of site procedures to assure personnel, contractor and facility safety.
·         Works with site Management to facilitate the management of Monsanto contractor & guest program to include pre-start up meetings and audits, ESH project reviews, work in progress audits, and maintaining program database requirements.
·         Provides technical and functional support to capital projects, construction activities and site improvement plans.
·         Provides ESH program and technical support to all assigned sites including:  training, compliance inspections, environmental and safety emergencies, audit preparation, IH sampling and monitoring, JSA development, contractor/guest program and TapRoot incident investigations.
·         Provides direct and consistent ESH site support on a frequent basis for all business operations and multi-functions by establishing a relationship with site management team and delivering one ESH message to continuously improve the performance for the entire site.
·         Focus efforts at the sites on increased first-aid & near miss reporting, environmental compliance, implementation of BBS and cross-checking. 
·         Conducts incident investigations, root cause analysis and trend analysis for incidents and determines corrective action and tracks action to completion.  
·         Works closely with each site on the preparation and management of Monsanto ESH management system and OSHA&##39;s VPP Star program.
·         Conducts facility ESH compliance audits, inspections, risk assessments, develops corrective action, and tracks items to completion.  Including, preparation of environmental and regulatory permits and reports to ensure regulatory compliance with the operation and construction of air permits, waste management/OPA, worker protection, and tier II requirements.
·         Coordinates on-going communication and network meetings periodically with site managers and ESH technicians.
·         Promotes overall site safety performance and awareness both on and off the job.
·         Fosters exchange of best practices between different groups in the region and within Monsanto.
·         Provides solutions and recognize gaps in the early stages to take proper preventive action.
·         Become an ESH program owner/mentor by providing training as needed for the assigned procedure and act as the technical expert for the procedure.
·         Lead ESH projects to deliver the ESH long-range plan.
·         Coordinate Generalist team to develop initiative or strategy to eliminate trends of accidents.
·         Lead statistical evaluation ad set direction to the organization  based on results.

Qualifications / Competencies:
  • B.S. Degree in Environmental, Safety & Health, or Engineering discipline preferred   
  • 10 years of ESH related experience required
  • Certified Safety Professional or Certified Industrial Hygienist preferred
  • Position requires excellent communication and computer skills
  • Strong project management and implementation skills required
  • Thorough knowledge of ANSI, EPA, OSHA and NFPA regulations
