To all recruitment agencies: Bayer does not accept unsolicited third party resumes. Bayer CropScience is currently seeking an information specialist to join our growing informatics group. The primary function of this role as Linux System Administrator is to design, configure and maintain the computing infrastructure that supports biotechnology research. The incumbent will work closely with other IT personnel to ensure such infrastructure’s function, performance and compliance with the global enterprise infrastructure. The incumbent will also be responsible to retrieve, disseminate, and maintain internal and external bioinformatics tools and databases in support of research.

The incumbent will: • Administer Linux system for a biological research facility. • Coordinate installation of the software, OS upgrades and configurations. • Strategize and maintain data synchronization with internal and external data sources. • Monitor, analyze and/or configure network structure to ensure the usage efficiency of large datasets. • Install and configure public/custom/commercial bioinformatics and other research software under Linux and Windows environments. • Configure and maintain a High Performance Computing system for high-throughput data analysis. • Coordinate frequent system backups to ensure there is no data loss due to outages and other malfunctions. • System and data security in coordination with company IT regulations and policies. • Communicate and cooperate with system operators of other research sites to ensure system and data consistency. The selected candidate is required to possess the following: • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years’ experience in computer sciences or IT related field. • 3+ years’ system administrator experience of Linux/Unix operating systems in a networked environment. • Experience in the following areas: client/server environment, virtualization, High Performance Computing, database management systems. • Proficient with Unix shell scripting, python/perl, JAVA/C++. • Ability to self-manage tasks and work in concert with multidisciplinary research teams. • Skilled at problem solving and communication.

Preferred Qualifications: • Masters’ degree in computer sciences or IT related field. • 2+ years of hardware and network experience. • Experience in application support for biotechnology, medical or agriculture industry. • Experience with essential bioinformatics software. • Multi-site working experience.
