This position will: • Supports the NAFTA Market Acceptance Manager in creating a public policy environment that will maintain current BioScience business and facilitate business expansion; • Contributes to the maintenance and creation of policy and regulatory environment that is science based and enables BioScience to bring products to the market in a timely and predictable manner; • Assists the NAFTA Market Acceptance Manager to identify potential concerns with BioScience products by our stakeholders and/or in US export countries in a timely manner and contribute to their effective management consistent with Bayer CropScience stewardship and business requirements; • Helps to provide increased speed / effectiveness in responding to external challenges / issues, in particular those reflected in the media or identified by key stakeholders; • Helps to increase client (market area) satisfaction with Bayer CropScience positions and briefing papers, BioScience product, research and marketing related communication tools; • Keeps relevant employees within the US and the Market Acceptance global team, well-informed on US stakeholder and policy issues and enabled to communicate our BioScience positions on key issues; • Works closely with the Market Acceptance NAFTA Manager on international related strategies needed to facilitate positive BioScience business support.

Major tasks and responsibilities of position • Develop and maintains a broad-based network of allies and stakeholders at national and state level supportive of BioScience projects, products and technologies. Leverages this network to assist in achieving business objectives and promoting public confidence in biotechnology; • May be required to assist with government lobbying, regulatory agency discussions and stakeholder relationship building to support the US business; • Assist in the development and implementation of the company’s internal and external communication strategy in compliance with the corporate communication principles and in cooperation with the Market Acceptance communications team; • Proactive monitoring, identifying and assessing issues that will have impact on our present and future businesses, from a public acceptance, political and legislative perspective; • Coordinates with the NAFTA Market Acceptance Manager in the development and guidance of the on-going Market Acceptance (MA) strategies in the US; • Ensures that the global Market Acceptance strategy adequately takes into account the US issues as it is one of the largest and influential markets for BioScience products; • Plays a significant role in industry task forces, initiatives and committees to establish sound regulatory policy, address global export trade issues, support key external and internal BioScience events at national and state level, to help improve public acceptance and confidence in biotechnology and non GM seed related issues; • Gains agreement on suitable positions, messages and initiatives to be used in public dialogue and for policy development. Collaborates with the communications team to develop appropriate supporting materials for both internal and industry activities.

Grade VS1.2 to VS1.3. Salary and Grade level will be commensurate with experience and/or education level.

Required Skills: • Degree in agriculture, biotechnology or related field; • 4-10 years of experience in the agricultural biotechnology policy and regulatory environment; • Problem solving skills and ability to assess policy development and market acceptance conditions and implications for agricultural biotechnology, seeds & traits products; • Strong team and networking skills to effectively develop and drive optimal and agreed upon policies and issue management; • Ability to express complex issues and facts into an easy to understand form, both verbally and in written form; • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
