*For major capital projects at St. Gabriel and North America (NOAM) Engineering, Manage engineering capital projects ensuring the timely implementation of new or improved assets consistent with rapidly changing business requirements and within agreed cost and safety parameters.
*Provide expert advice and direction to others by the timely application of technical and/or project management professionalism at key points in the project process. Project Management is defined as "The planning, monitoring and control of all aspects of a project and the motivation of all those involved in it to achieve the project objectives on time and to the specified cost, quality, safety and performance".
*Financial scope: Capital projects generally exceeding $100m (singularly or in aggregate)*Direct people responsibility: None
*Indirect people responsibility: Indirect management of numerous design and construction contractor personnel
*Through a clear understanding of the business strategy, intent or requirements: Manage projects directly: Agree and set success criteria for projects and formulate and deliver project execution strategies ensuring successful delivery of the project through a project team (e.g. Syngenta staff, the design and construction contractors and equipment suppliers) meeting those criteria. Through support to projects managed by others, influence and direct the scale, nature, timing and execution of capital investments to meet changing business requirements. Define, estimate, deliver and track the costs and physical progress of individual capital projects Prepare robust, timely applications for engineering capital approval. Ensure full integration between commissioning and start up activities and the design and construction phases of projects. As part of the NOAM CPG, provide project management and technical support to projects across NOAM
Knowledge, Skills & Experience: *Undergraduate degree in engineering discipline or equivalent MBA preferred or at minimum practitioner-level experience in finance as it relates to capital projects
*Project management skills Strong organizational and planning skills
*Demonstrated leadership, networking, coaching and mentoring skills Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence colleagues at all levels and operates effectively in a matrix organization
*Objectivity regarding standards
*The Syngenta Project Process and Capital Sanctioning System Concepts and procedures required to deliver all elements of a capital program. Techniques of economic evaluation, including development of capital cost estimates and discounted cash flow financial analyses
*Expertise in all project management knowledge area; Enhanced expertise in project definition, cost control, contract negotiation and contract management
*Extensive experience managing capital projects and negotiation of contracts Experience communicating with and influencing senior stakeholders
*Ability to form and manage teams and develop team members to tackle challenging targets and to achieve those goals with limited resources and tight timelines. Strong concern for maintaining HSE and Syngenta standards and technical integrity while under pressure to meet challenging targets and timelines.

Critical Success Factors & Key Challenges: *With the sudden and unexpected change in the crop protection business speed of response and project delivery is critical. The SEPM must have extensive knowledge of the realization of chemical process to plant design and strong personal drive to create the edge and momentum required to drive forward very fast project implementation.
