YOU are a productive, results oriented Agriculture/Agronomy graduate, with knowledge and experience in production agriculture (preferably within the tobacco industry). You have a University or Master’s degree in Agriculture or Agronomy, excellent written and verbal communication skills and are proficient in the use of Microsoft Office tools. Other assets: proficiency in Spanish, excellent relationship-building skills.


Leaf PMI’s Agricultural Programs team’s mission is to promote a sustainable supply of acceptable quality tobacco available for PMI to purchase.

9-12 month internship beginnning in January 2013.

As an Agronomy Intern you will report directly to the Manager Agricultural Programs. You will assist the Agricultural Programs team in executing on the group’s mission, including, but not limited to: product integrity programs, grower surveys and other interactions, tobacco and agricultural monitoring and analysis and communications programs.


  • Participating in supporting, conducting and executing PMI global programs.
  • Sampling farmer bales for analysis.
  • Collecting survey data from contracted growers.
  • Working with the Leaf PMI team in performing the annual heat exchanger and barn inspection program, including handling and analyzing the resulting data.
  • Participating in the collection, consolidation and analysis of the cost of production data. This includes crop inputs, fixed costs and returns on investment.
  • Participating in conducting and implementing Leaf PMI programs, especially as it relates to agricultural programs.
