Bringing the best of genetic evaluation to the New Zealand agricultural industry!

AgResearch supports the New Zealand economy by delivering innovative research solutions to the pastoral sector. We are seeking a pre-eminent Science Leader to influence the strategic direction of the Animal Genomics team by identifying and delivering new research opportunities that achieve maximum impact on our livestock sectors.

You’ll join a large multidisciplinary team focussed on developing novel genetic strategies for wide range of economically important traits in several livestock species. The team comprises well-established and emerging scientists with expertise spanning a wide range of research fields, and is closely aligned with industry groups and research and commercial partners, both nationally and internationally.

You will provide strong scientific leadership in applied quantitative genetics and genomics with focus on the sheep, dairy, beef and deer sectors. Your extensive industry knowledge, impressive research track record, and ability to mentor and empower other researchers will add value to our team.

This is a permanent position involving delivery of high quality animal genetics research in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment. You will be responsible for:
• Identifying and delivering animal genetic and genomic research that is strategically relevant to industry
• Maintaining scientific excellence through publication in international journals and participation in extensive collaborative networks
• Identifying and galvanising strategic industry partnerships to produce new research proposals
• Networking with industry stakeholders in the wider pastoral community.

You should be a motivated, independent, career minded animal scientist and have:
• A PhD or other high level post graduate degree in Animal Science
• Demonstrated science leadership in animal quantitative genetics with an international reputation, at least 10 years relevant scientific experience
• An impressive publication record
• A desire to apply your broad skills and experience to develop novel genetic evaluation technologies for application in the agricultural industry.
